Discovering How To Forgive Yourself; Living A Lifetime Set Free in Just Ten Days!
We've all done things in life we wish we hadn't done. Often these things cause us unhappiness as we think of them, while other things can cause so much regret we are able to barely live with what we have done and discover it's difficult, if not impossible, to pardon ourselves for it. Maybe you know what I'm talking about. You are so shamed of something that you have done that you can't comprehend you might or should pardon yourself. As an alternative you feel all you are able to do is take the rest of your life paying penance for your wrongdoing, in hopes that will take away the oppressive burden of guilt you are living with every day.
Without regard for your past wrong-doing, you can be freed from the responsibility you now carry, due to your unwillingness to forgive yourself. You may have sought the clemency of Our Lord God for what youve done, yet if you have failed to pardon yourself, you may remain defeated, maybe bondage, till you decide to obey the Word of our Lord and excuse yourself.
Regularly when we glance at the meaning and intent of of a word, we will be able to better know how to apply it to our lives. This is true as we glance at the Greek word for forgiveness meaning to free fully, i.e. Literally relieve, release, dismiss or let die, pardon, divorce from, depart, dismiss, let go, loose, put ( send ) away, release, to be freed.
To all who ask, your Heavenly Father gives His gift of forgiveness, meaning; He totally frees, releases, dismisses and pardons us from the debt and guilt of our transgressions. He sets us "body, soul and spirit" at freedom. Nevertheless he doesn't quit there. He then tells us to forgive others, as well as forgiving ourselves, Just like we have been forgiven, assuring us the ability, by His Holy Spirit, to do so.
How does one go about actually forgiving him or herself? There's no formula but the following recommendation could be useful.
First, understand that one needs to make the decision to pardon ones self primarily based on God's Word to do so. Forgiveness is a choice and an act of the will is necessary to make it happen.
Leviticus 19:18 claims you shall love your neighbour as yourself... To love yourself is a command of Our Lord and love always includes forgiveness.
Next, if you have not already, ask God to forgive you for the injustices you have done. It's vital to do that before working through forgiving yourself. Remember, He's waiting to excuse you and will graciously do therefore if you ask Him.
Nehemiah 9:17 But you are a God of forgiveness, Gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in loving kindness.
Then, sit down quietly with God and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you the things that you haven't let go of or given yourself forgiveness for. Jot it all down on a piece of paper. Be certain and put down all of the specific details list the names of people you hurt and the ways in which you caused them harm. ( No one will see your writings. )
From there express how you're feeling due to what you did; Are you angry at yourself? Are you feeling ashamed? Unworthy? Be very honest, for your Heavenly Father knows it all already. This is a neat place to release all of the emotions youve carried or tried to reject.
Now, take the decision to excuse yourself as God has forgiven you. Literally release, dismiss, let die, pardon, let go, loose, put ( send ) away, release and set yourself at liberty from the incorrect you are guilty of. Put your wrongdoing into His hands and ask Him to fix your emotional wounds and allow you to go on without regrets, let go of the past and start fresh!
Eventually destroy your list and throw it in the bin as a visible reminder that the guilt of what youve done has been forgiven and carried away, gone for good.
Now, go and experience the healing, peace and freedom that's yours to enjoy as you praise God for His power of forgiveness.
