Sucker Punch is an action fantasy picture that's based on a comic book. It tells the tale of a adolescent girl that is put into a psychological institution because she kills her stepfather. The fact that she was protecting her younger sister from him seems to be lost on the authorities and she is dispatched to the institute to protect society and iron out her mental issues.
The film is set in the 1950's and the assumption goes that the mental institution is not a good one. They employ all types of treatment options like electro-shock therapy to 'cure' their patients. In actual fact the whole place is pretty sinister looking, even the entrance looks like some haunted house.
Anyway, it appears clear to the primary protagonist, Baby Doll, that she is about to be in for a rough time in the institution so she goes into a fantasy world in her own mind to deal with the reality. She meets four other girls in the institution too (or are they in her mind ?) who join her in this fantasy world.
Inside the fantasy world they're a crack team on a quest. The quest takes them to out of the ordinary worlds and times from the earth's past. They fight German soldiers from the first world war and a giant Samurai. It really is pretty mad stuff.
The five characters are Baby Doll, Rocket, Amber, Blondie and Sweet Pea. Every one has a costume that is a mixture of a ninja fighting outfit and a sexy tight fitting number. Baby doll is without doubt the most girly of the costumes and it looks slightly like a school girl outfit with high black stockings. To dispel any concept she's a school girl she happens to be very adroit with a samurai sword and employs it to good effect in the movie.
